Rihanna Drive in Barbados unveiled

a day my people and I will never forget! all the lessons, running around barefoot, nosey neighbors, braiding hair on the step, playing in the cemetery, walking to the beach, rum shop karaoke keeping the whole street awake til 4am ("only the lonely" by Roy Orbison is playing in my head as I type this) , stealing Sammy pomegranates from his tree, begging my mother to let me walk to Jan's shop cause she had American snacks, selling plastic/glass bottles to Peter so I could buy those American snacks, getting my hair hot combed for Harvest at church, doing my homework on my front step while Miss Hyacinth yells "ya gon get belly hurt from dat cold step" across from her veranda, watching iFE walk past with her dreads dragging on the floor like a couture gown, all the times I thought Melissa came to hang out with me, turns out she was dating my next door neighbor all along, rushing to do dishes when my mother's high heels start hitting the pavement as she gets off the bus from work……right here on this street! WESTBURY is more than a community, we're family!!! Thank you for all that you've poured into my life and the woman I am! It takes a village, and I'm glad my village was you!!!! To God be the Glory!!!! #RiRiDrive

Grateful and honoured. That was Rihanna’s reaction to the renaming of her childhood neighbourhood to Rihanna Drive and the conferral of the title of Cultural Ambassador last night.

“I couldn’t be more honoured to have the street that I was raised on, the street that I grew up on, the street . . . my dreams were born on this very street here and I know that saying ‘believe in your dreams’, it sounds cliché but, I guarantee you, the only thing that got me here was believing my dreams,” Rihanna declared to screams yesterday.

Dressed in a gold deconstructed shirtdress and matching purse from the Jacquemeus spring-summer 2018 collection, the entertainer, actress and businesswoman took the spotlight in a ceremony that started an hour and 40 minutes late under stormy afternoon skies.

Her arrival and that of Prime Minister Freundel Stuart were heralded by a bugle fanfare and she was greeted by a flag-bearing guard of honour of cadets from Combermere School. She later chatted with Charles F. Broome Memorial School’s head boy Alique Marshall and head girl Anya Walcott, who presented her with a bouquet of flowers and a plaque.

Noting that she still thought of it as Westbury New Road, the 29-year-old singer said she could not be more grateful “for a day like this”.

She credited the people of Westbury New Road with making her into the woman that she now was.

“Special thanks to all my neighbours in Westbury New Road who had a hand in raising me and the woman that I am and the discipline that I have. I am very grateful for that kind of backbone. I believe that I was here for a reason,” she said.

The songbird said she never doubted her dreams would come true and urged young men and women to believe in their dreams.

“I didn’t know how it was going to happen. I know I was hidden away on this little rock Barbados, how would anybody find me but I always knew it would happen. I always focused on the result and that kind of faith. It really was just faith.”

She added it was that faith that got her through doubt and times of discouragement.

“It is the thing that I go back to, having faith in God. And I want to encourage not just the people of Westbury New Road and the Westbury community, but all of the people in Barbados, all the young women and young men who have dreams and think that the world is up against them, it is possible,” she said.

The event was attended by the who’s who of Barbados, including Chief Justice Sir Marston Gibson, Opposition Leader Mia Mottley, Cave Hill Campus principal, Professor Eudine Barriteau, MP for the area Michael Carrington, Minister of Tourism Richard Sealy, Minister of Culture Stephen Lashley, other politicians and noted entertainers Gabby, Red Plastic Bag and Richard Stoute. The event, which included the unveiling of a signpost and a sign board, culminated with a street party after Prime Minister Stuart and Rihanna viewed the symbol that was embedded into the pavement outside Rihanna’s former home.

Paolo Roversi to Reveal Rihanna Photos During Art Exhibit

MILAN — The Italian, but Paris-based, fashion photographer Paolo Roversi is gearing up to debut an exhibition at Milan’s Palazzo Reale on Nov. 16.

The inauguration of the “Storie” [“Stories” in English] exhibit is organized in conjunction with the opening of the second edition of the Photo Vogue Festival 2017, running in Milan until Nov. 19.

“Due to the particular venue, which doesn’t feature a unique exhibition space, we decided to organize the exhibit in nine groups of pictures located in nine different rooms,” said Roversi reached by phone in Paris. “They are like nine different stories, nine themes that we picked with Alessia Glaviano [Vogue Italian senior photo editor,] who curated the exhibition, not following any specific logics but mostly guided by a certain freedom and by an emotional attitude.”

“Storie,” which will be open to the public until Dec. 17, retraces the professional path of Roversi, who stood out from the crowd with the use of the 8×10 Polaroid films and his incredible attention to light effects delivering intense images combining realism and illusion at the same time.

The exhibition will include pictures of his most private, personal experimentations, such as portraits and nudes, as well as more glamorous works focused on fashion subjects. An entire room will be dedicated to unpublished pictures of Rihanna.

Rihanna to Co-Host Met Gala 2018

VOGUE: Just as important as the Met Gala theme reveal—next year’s show is titled “Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination” — is the announcement of Anna Wintour’s cohosts. Taking over the duties carried out last time around by Katy Perry, Pharrell Williams, Gisele Bündchen, and Tom Brady are three women who are as talented as they are glamorous: Amal Clooney, Rihanna, and Donatella Versace.

Rihanna is a Met Gala all-star: No one gets more into the spirit of things than @badgalriri. Consider the yolk-color Guo Pei gown she wore to the 2015 event that not only put the Chinese designer on the map, but also blew up the memosphere. For anyone other than Rihanna, that look would have been a tough one to top, but she managed, arriving at this year’s Comme des Garçons exhibition in a fresh-off-the-runway look by the woman of the hour, Rei Kawakubo. By now, we know to expect the unexpected from Rihanna—even an impromptu performance, like the one she gave with Kanye West in 2009.

Fenty Beauty Biggest Beauty Brand on Social Media in Sep

When Rihanna’s new makeup line, Fenty Beauty, launched on September 8th, beauty lovers around the world went absolutely insane. From the yellow-gold highlighters to her range of 40 foundation shades and very Instagrammable packaging, there is truly something for everyone to swoon over — and thanks to the influencers and fans doing just that all over the internet, Rihanna is literally winning right now when it comes to the world of beauty.

According to Tribe Dynamics‘ earned media value report for the month of September, Fenty Beauty recorded $72 million in earned media value during the month of September — its first month in existence — being beat only by cult-favorite brand Anastasia Beverly Hills, who reported $97.3 million in earned media value, and MAC, who reported $77.1 million.

What does that mean, exactly? As Tribe Dynamics explains, “Earned Media Value (EMV) is Tribe Dynamics’ prescribed metric that quantifies the estimated value of publicity gained through digital earned media and their respective engagement levels.” In other words, it’s the value of the amount of publicity the brand received through Instagram, Youtube, Facebook, Twitter and blog posts combined.

For reference, Fenty’s $72 million is $20 million more than NYX’s earned media value, followed by Benefit, which came in at $48.1 million, and Urban Decay which landed at $37.0 million.

And thanks to support from influencers like Jeffree Starr, Nyma Tang and many more, Fenty’s EMV for YouTube content alone landed the brand in first place in that category with $10.6 million, and the same went for Twitter, with nearly a $5 million lead over other brands. The brand remained at third place in the Instagram category with a total of $41.9 million.

Rihanna Among Nominees for the 2017 Fashion Awards

The successful FENTY x PUMA by Rihanna is a newcomer to the list of nominations in this year’s Urban Luxe Brand category at the British Fashion Council’s Fashion Awards.

Votes were cast by 2,000 members of the fashion industry across disciplines that include media, retail, communications and photography, with the voting body covering 38 countries.

“We are delighted to announce the nominees for the 2017 Fashion Awards,” says Nadja Swarovski, member of the Swarovski executive board and principal sponsor of the awards. “These fantastic talents are the very best of the global industry… Young designers are the heartbeat of our business, and it is up to all of us to foster and champion their vision.”

In 2016, The Fashion Awards underwent a rebrand, losing the “British” from its title in a bid to make the awards more international.

The Fashion Awards is a key fundraiser for the BFC’s education foundation. Last year, the event raised £700,000 (about $920,000 at current exchange), of which £300,000 ($400,000) was used to support young British talent through scholarships. The remaining funds were allocated to Newgen, the scheme pioneered by the BFC in 1993 to nurture and support emerging talent by offering new designers mentoring as well as a platform to show at London Fashion Week. In the last academic year, the programme awarded over £100,000 ($130,000) across 12 BA and MA scholarships. The BFC will look to broaden the variety of scholarships available in the year ahead. This year, Swarovski has pledged £300,000 to the BFC’s education programme in advance of the fundraiser.
