Rihanna is one of the world’s biggest stars. But who shapes her success?

In time for Rihanna’s decade long anniversary as an artist, UK’s BBC Radio 1 have made a radio documentary called ‘Who Makes Rihanna’. Rather than focusing on the lady herself, they’re celebrating the people who have made her who she is today.

Sarah-Jane Crawford goes beyond the hits and headlines to discover Who Makes Rihanna and keeps her on top.

We hear from those who make the music and decide whether her songs get played on the radio. Plus, we find out what it’s like being on tour with Rihanna from the man in charge of her shows.

Sarah-Jane also speaks to those behind the hype, from photographers to magazines, online blogs and fansites. And we explore who helps create her style with the team behind her first high street fashion line and RiRi’s tattoo artist.

Ultimate-Rihanna had the chance to be part of the documentary to share on what it’s like to be part of Rihanna Navy.

The programme will be aired at the following times:

BBC Radio 1Xtra – Sun 30th August – 9PM GMT

BBC Radio 1 – Tues 1st September – 9PM GMT

Don’t forget to tune in to listen to the 1h documentary to find out Who Makes Rihanna!

“FIRST GLIMPSE AT MY NEW MUSIC!!!” Rihanna tweeted on Saturday (Jan. 24) when she released a new track, featuring Kanye West and Paul McCartney, called “FourFiveSeconds.”

The song, off her forthcoming eighth studio album, is a departure from 2012’s Unaplogetic. A plucky acoustic guitar complements Rihanna’s vocals.

“I think I’ve had enough/ Might get a little drunk/ I say what’s on my mind/ I might do a little time,” she sings on the opening lines of the track. “Cause all of my kindness/ Is taken for weakness.”

For Kanye’s part, he sings, “Woke up an optimist/ Sun was shining, I’m positive/ Then I heard you was talking trash/ Hold me back/ I’m about to spazz.”

Later, on the chorus, Kanye and Rihanna harmonize together, “Now I’m four, five seconds from wildin’/ And we got three more days ’till Friday/ I’m just tyring to make it back home by Monday morning.”

Rihanna talks to Radio 1’s Nick Grimshaw about her new album, the 777 tour and her love of Mini Cheddars.

Rihanna also defended her 777 tour, where she performed seven shows in seven cities over seven days.

The Barbadian singer took a group of 200 journalists with her on the promotional tour to mark the release of her seventh studio album, Unapologetic.

In her only UK interview, she told Radio 1 Breakfast Show DJ Nick Grimshaw that it had been “fun but exhausting”.

“It was different having to do your job but also have 200 guests come along with you,” she said.

“They all want you to host a party every time you get on the plane after a show but you really only have that time to sleep until you get to the next country.

“Sometimes it was a two-hour ride to the next country and that was all the sleep you would get.”

Some of the journalists on the Boeing 777 jet complained that they had not seen Rihanna since the first day of the tour despite being promised interviews with her.

An Australian DJ was videoed streaking through the plane as it travelled from Berlin to London and fans who were invited along said journey times and shows were repeatedly delayed.

But Rihanna said she had to “use her time wisely”.
