It’s Nice That writes:

It’s not often that our favourite creatives get to produce work for one of the biggest names in music – in fact this may well be the first time it’s happened – but Hugo and Marie’s work for Rihanna’s latest Unapologetic album bucks this trend nicely.

Utilising not just one, but two of our favourite illustrators, Mario Hugo and MVM, the album is awash with hand-rendered type and MVM’s now ubiquitous illustration of Miss Fenty herself.

Pulling in the creative talents of eight different people, including photographers Michael Muller and Melissa Forde, Rihanna and Ciarra Pardo as well as our former, and much missed, intern Sam Hodges, Unapologetic is a magnificent example of a large group of people pulling together to make something great at extremely high speed.

Hopefully this means more collaborations with multi-platinum popstars in the future.

Illustration, photo treatments, and custom type for Rihanna’s 7th release, Unapologetic, by Mario Hugo. Creative direction by Rihanna and Ciarra Pardo, with photography by Michael Muller and Melissa Forde. MVM’s beautiful Rihanna illustration was remixed by Mario Hugo for the disc art. Special thanks to Fanny Nordmark and Sam Hodges and our friends at Def Jam records for their late night teamwork.

Rihanna talks to Radio 1’s Nick Grimshaw about her new album, the 777 tour and her love of Mini Cheddars.

Rihanna also defended her 777 tour, where she performed seven shows in seven cities over seven days.

The Barbadian singer took a group of 200 journalists with her on the promotional tour to mark the release of her seventh studio album, Unapologetic.

In her only UK interview, she told Radio 1 Breakfast Show DJ Nick Grimshaw that it had been “fun but exhausting”.

“It was different having to do your job but also have 200 guests come along with you,” she said.

“They all want you to host a party every time you get on the plane after a show but you really only have that time to sleep until you get to the next country.

“Sometimes it was a two-hour ride to the next country and that was all the sleep you would get.”

Some of the journalists on the Boeing 777 jet complained that they had not seen Rihanna since the first day of the tour despite being promised interviews with her.

An Australian DJ was videoed streaking through the plane as it travelled from Berlin to London and fans who were invited along said journey times and shows were repeatedly delayed.

But Rihanna said she had to “use her time wisely”.
