This week, The Source Magazine sat down with producer Benny Blanco where he told us the story behind Rihanna’s latest smash ‘Diamonds’.

Q: How did you come to produce Diamonds for Rihanna?

Benny Blanco: Me and Stargate – Stargate brought me in – and we’ve been making tracks for a little bit, you know we did ‘Work Hard’ together, the Wiz Khalifa record, we were just making a bunch of different records and we’ve been making stuff for Rihanna and then it was dope and then one day we went in and we were like, “Oh, let’s make something like, as if Kanye can rap on it.”

We weren’t thinking of Rihanna at all and then it’s the one that we weren’t thinking Rihanna, is the one that turned into the Rihanna record...But that’s how it always happens like with me, when I’m really thinking, “Yo, you got to make this hit right now, we got to make the first single right now.” It never works that way…You know…music’s not a pressure-based thing…It just kind of happens, so whenever I’m…just not thinking about it, just freeing my mind, just trying to make music that I want to hear…those are the ones that usually go somewhere.

Rihanna’s brand new single Diamonds debuts at #1 in UK to become her 7th #1 single in the UK.

In what has been one of the closest fought chart battles of 2012 so far, Rihanna’s Diamonds emerges victorious over One Direction’s Live While We’re Young, and Adele’s Skyfall in the race to take the converted Number 1 slot from K-pop sensation Psy’s Gangnam Style.

In Wednesday’s Official Chart Update, the Bajan singer’s latest track was a mere 250 copies behind One Direction’s new single, but today it finishes the week nearly 19,000 ahead of the British boyband with sales of over 105,000 copies. Diamonds is Rihanna’s sixth Official Singles Chart Number 1 as a lead artist and seventh overall.

With just 420 copies between the two, last week’s chart topper, Gangnam Style, slides one place to Number 2, while One Direction score their fourth Top 10 hit in twelve months with Live While We’re Young new in at Number 3.

Below you can take a look on all Rihanna’s #1s in the UK:

Tonight Rihanna performed at the Fifa U-17 Women’s World Cup in Azerbaijan.

The show was held at the Crystal Hall Arena in Baku, where the Eurovision Song Contest also was held. Rihanna performed the same set of songs she performed at several festivals this summer.

Rihanna’s concert in Baku was dedicated to the fight against piracy in the music industry.

Rihanna’s appearance caused an incredible surge of emotion in the audience. The audience began to dance to the hits of the global megastar.

During the performance Rihanna said “I love you Baku!” several times.

The audience was active, both singng and dancing along. Not even the guards could resist the energy coming from the singer and her dancers.

After two successful perfumes “Rebelle” and “Reb’l Fleur” Rihanna is releasing a 3rd scent called “Nude”.

Above you can take a look at the first promotional photo where Rihanna looks dreamy, sensual and very beautiful as she smiles into the camera.

The photo shoot was shot back in May and the scent is said to release later this month.

Update – On Twitter Rihanna was asked about the new scent and answered you will smell like her while using it. A fan asked if clothing is needed to wear the scent “Nude” which Rihanna jokingly replied yes to.

This new scent is an addition to the previous perfumes “Reb’l Fleur” and “Rebelle”. More info on “Nude”:

Since her arrival on the music scene seven years ago, Rihanna has become a global sensation. Her third fragrance, Nude by Rihanna, is a reflection of her ever evolving style and multifaced personality.

Nude by Rihanna bares her sensual, but playful side; revealing a soft, modern interpretation of skin scent. It is a hypnotic fruity oriental scent that hooks the wearer in with a warm base. Nude is perfect to wear when you aren’t wearing anything at all.
