Rihanna ran through her pop and R&B hits at the fifth annual Global Citizen Festival on Saturday (Sep 24th). She closed the show with a number of her smash hits, from “We Found Love” to “Umbrella” to the recent “Needed Me.” Most of the performers thanked the feverish audience for doing acts of kindness to earn the tickets.

As fans waited for Rihanna to perform, Chris Martin — who had just performed — came back onstage to stall. He sang Prince’s “Raspberry Beret” while strumming the guitar, and freestyled new lyrics about why Rihanna was late, which earned laughs and applause from the crowd. He joked that the singer was doing her makeup and said he would perform the Prince song again.

A day before the festival, on Friday, Rihanna was appointed Ambassador of Global Citizen, which teamed up with her Clara Lionel Foundation for a multi-year partnership to advocate for kids. Julia Gillard, the chairwoman of the organisation, took to the mic to cement the partnership, telling the world that “education is the best investment we can make for a prosperous, peaceful, equitable and future-ready world”, and that she was “thrilled” be working with Rihanna.

“We got global citizens in the house tonight — I myself, I’m from Barbados so I came a long way,” Rihanna said between the songs. “There are people all over the globe that need help.”

Rihanna is to join a campaign to ensure that girls and boys in the world’s poorest countries can get a quality education. Rihanna’s Clara Lionel Foundation today announced a multi-year partnership with the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) and international advocacy group Global Citizen.

The partnership will advocate for the rights of the over quarter of a billion children and young people who are not in school today and an estimated 330 million who are in school but not learning. Operating across more than 60 developing countries to ensure that every child receives a quality education, the partnership will prioritize the poorest and most vulnerable, including girls and children affected by conflict and crisis.

In her new role as GPE Global Ambassador, Rihanna will encourage world leaders and policymakers to boost their support for global education and education in emergencies through the Global Partnership for Education, the only global organization focused exclusively on improving education in the world’s poorest countries.

The announcement comes the same week as a group of influential leaders from all continents called on the world to invest more and better in education, particularly in the world’s poorest countries. The report of the International Commission on Financing Global Education Opportunity presents compelling new data and analysis and makes the case for urgent action to ensure education is the foundation for a world that is prosperous, peaceful, equitable and future-ready.

Speaking of the partnership, Rihanna said, “I feel strongly that all children everywhere should be afforded the opportunity of a quality education. Therefore I’m proud to announce Clara Lionel Foundation’s partnership with education advocacy leaders like the Global Partnership for Education and Global Citizen. Working together, I know we can amplify our efforts and ensure that millions of children gain access to education globally.”

GPE Chair and former Prime Minister of Australia, Julia Gillard, said, “We are thrilled that Rihanna is joining GPE as Global Ambassador to campaign for every child to be able to experience the power of a quality education. We have a once in a generation opportunity to build the commitment of world leaders to education, and Rihanna’s voice and travels to countries where GPE is actively engaged, will be hugely influential in improving the lives of girls and boys everywhere.”

On Thursday (Dec 10th) Rihanna held the 2nd Annual Diamond Ball in Los Angeles, benefiting the Clara Lionel Foundation. Kevin Hart was this year’s host, and Lionel Richie took the stage for a performance.

Last year Rihanna launched the first annual Diamond Ball, a black tie fundraiser to benefit Clara Lionel Foundation (CLF), which was founded in 2012 in honor of Rihanna’s grandparents, Clara and Lionel Braithwaite. CLF is dedicated to improving the quality of life for communities globally in the areas of health, education, arts, and culture.

Rihanna helped raise over $3 million at last night’s event. Her manager Jay Brown won the auction for a replica of her Dior dress at $45,000.

“The energy, the crowd, the vibe,” Rihanna told People about the event. “I love everything about it!”

“It’s overwhelming to see so many of the people that I care about come together to support a cause that is near and dear to my heart,” she added.

On Wednesday, the 27-year-old singer revealed the date and details for the charity event’s second go-around in support of the Clara Lionel Foundation, which she founded in 2012 in honor of her grandparents, Clara and Lionel Brathwaite.

Kevin Hart will host and Lionel Richie will perform at the star-studded event taking place at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California, on Dec. 10.

“I’m so proud of the work the Clara Lionel Foundation has done in its first year and can’t wait to celebrate with the iconic Lionel Richie and incredibly talented Kevin Hart at this year’s Diamond Ball,” the Barbados native said in a statement.

CLF, which aims to improve the quality of life for communities globally in the areas of health, education, arts and culture, is a foundation Rihanna says is near and dear to her heart. The “Diamonds” singer founded CLF after witnessing the shortcomings of the Barbados healthcare system first-hand.

“I am beyond proud of the work the Clara Lionel Foundation has done. Over the past year, we have helped transform the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Barbados into the most modern cancer treatment facility in the Caribbean,” she told ET. “With the funds raised from the inaugural 2014 Diamond Ball, we were able to purchase two state-of-the-art pieces of equipment for the hospital’s Clara Braithwaite Center for Oncology and Nuclear Medicine.”

Two million dollars was raised at last year’s event.

Last year Rihanna launched the first annual Diamond Ball, a black tie fundraiser to benefit Clara Lionel Foundation (CLF), which was founded in 2012 in honor of Rihanna’s grandparents, Clara and Lionel Braithwaite.

Rihanna is holding a benefit auction, which you can bid on until December 10, which is when the 2nd Annual Diamond Ball is going to be held in Los Angeles.

Rihanna may be an artistic chameleon, but she is steadfast about her passions, one of which is philanthropy. For the past three years, the vocal virtuoso has been advancing the lives of women and children through her Clara Lionel Foundation, named in honor of her grandparents.

On the occasion of Paddle8’s benefit auction, which will culminate in the second annual Diamond Ball in Los Angeles on December 10, we took a look at @BadGalRiri’s social feeds to take stock of the many artful and interesting things that seem to make the singer tick. Herewith, our curated highlights of her personal collections, from rare sports memorabilia to up-and-coming street artist finds:

Rihanna was reportedly introduced to the work of the New York City-based Israeli painter, sculptor, and installation artist Roy Nachum by Jay-Z. After the two artists met and connected, Rihanna commissioned Nachum to create paintings for her forthcoming studio album, Anti (which is being released this week on Tidal, and to the public on December 4.) The cover art features a black and white image of Rihanna as a child, holding a black balloon, with a golden crown over her eyes. The full canvas is embossed in braille with the poem “If They Let Us,” by Chloe Mitchell. The singer has called the finished product her favorite album cover to date and says it represents the fact that “sometimes the ones who have sight are the blindest.”
