Rihanna’s “Love on the Brain” has reached the top five on Billboard Hot 100, becoming her 22nd top five hit! “Love on the Brain” bumps 6-5 on the Hot 100, hitting a new peak. The song is Rihanna’s 22nd top five hit, breaking her out of a fifth-place tie with Elvis Presley (who tallied 21 top fives after the Hot 100’s 1958 inception; his career predates the Hot 100, as he first hit Billboard charts in 1956). The only artists with more top five Hot 100 hits than Rihanna:

The Beatles (29)
Madonna (28)
Mariah Carey (26)
Janet Jackson (24)
Rihanna (22)

Airplay continues to drive the ballad most heavily, as it keeps at No. 3 on Radio Songs (107 million, essentially even week-over-week).

With “Love on the Brain,” Rihanna joins Madonna (38) and The Beatles (34) as the only acts with at least 30 Hot 100 top 10s all time.

As previously reported, Rihanna rumbles 13-8 on the Billboard Hot 100 (dated March 4) with “Love on the Brain,” marking her milestone 30th top 10. Dating to the chart’s Aug. 4, 1958, inception, only Madonna, with 38, and The Beatles, with 34, boast more.

Rihanna breaks a tie for third place with Michael Jackson, who’s tallied 29 top 10s, as a soloist.

Notably, Rihanna sports the second-fastest accumulation of 30 Hot 100 top 10s (from an act’s first-ever week in the region to the first week in the tier with its 30th). Having first hit the top 10 with “Pon De Replay” on the July 16, 2005-dated chart, she needed 10 years, seven months and two weeks to tally 30 top 10s. Only The Beatles hit the landmark more quickly, from “I Want to Hold Your Hand” to “Something,” over a span of just five years, nine months and two weeks (Jan. 25, 1964-Nov. 8, 1969).

While she’s the leader for the most Hot 100 top 10s, Madonna took 12 years, eight months and two weeks from her first top 10, “Borderline,” to her 30th, “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina” (June 16, 1984-March 1, 1997; thus, with the latest Hot 100 dated March 4, 2017, we last celebrated an act reaching 30 top 10 hits 20 years ago to the week).

Rihanna earns her sixth No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, as “Needed Me” hops 2-1 on the Sept. 24-dated list.

The crowning climb follows another No. 1 for Rihanna earlier this year with “Work,” featuring Drake, which spent 11 weeks on top, first leading the Feb. 13 chart. It’s the first time that Rihanna has placed two tracks from the same album atop the chart; both are from her most recent release, Anti. The set debuted at No. 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart (Feb. 20) and spent four weeks at No. 1.

“Needed Me” bumps Drake from his record-breaking 18-week run at No. 1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs with “One Dance,” featuring WizKid & Kyla. The song slides to No. 2 on the chart (which blends airplay, sales and streaming data, powered by Nielsen Music). “Needed Me” had spent the last eight weeks at No. 1 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs below “One Dance.”

Rihanna takes the No. 1 slot despite an overall 2 percent decline in chart points. That said, the song is up 1 percent in streams (to 4.1 million in the week ending Sept. 8); 41 percent of its weekly clicks are from Spotify, while YouTube claims 35 percent. The song slips 11 percent in sales (to 27,000 downloads) and falls 2 percent in audience (to 80.6 million).

Title, Peak date, Weeks at No. 1
“Take a Bow,” Aug. 30, 2008, one week
“Diamonds,” Oct. 20, 2012, 14 weeks
“The Monster,” (Eminem feat. Rihanna), Nov. 16, 2013, 13 weeks
“FourFiveSeconds” (with Kanye West & Paul McCartney), Feb. 21, 2015, seven weeks
“Work,” feat. Drake, Feb. 13, 2016, 11 weeks
“Needed Me,” Sept. 24, 2016 (one week to date)

In the 11 years since Rihanna first debuted on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, on June 11, 2005, with “Pon De Replay” (which rose to No. 24), she has notched 48 total hits on the chart. She trails just two other female acts for the most appearances in that span: Nicki Minaj (71) and Beyonce (52).

Also notably, “Needed Me” took 32 weeks to hit the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs summit, completing Rihanna’s longest trip to No. 1 and the third-longest of any leader. John Legend’s “All of Me” reached No. 1 in its 35th frame in 2014, while the longest trek belongs to R. Kelly’s “Step in the Name if Love,” which became the chart’s leader in its 43rd week in 2003.

Rihanna’s “Needed Me” rises 13-10 this week, matching Michael Jackson for the third-most top 10s in the Hot 100’s history.

Rounding out the Hot 100’s top 10, Rihanna’s “Needed Me” roars 13-10 to become her 29th Hot 100 top 10. With the ascent, she ties Michael Jackson for the third-most Hot 100 top 10s, with the pair trailing only Madonna (38) and the Beatles (34).

Rihanna passes Stevie Wonder’s 28 top 10s. (She earned her 28th just a week ago, when Calvin Harris’ “This is What You Came For,” on which she’s featured, debuted at No. 9; this week, the collab drops to No. 15.) “Needed” (like “Work,” from Rihanna’s album Anti) climbs 5-4 on Streaming Songs (17.3 million, up 3 percent); backtracks 23-25 on Digital Songs (35,000, down 6 percent); and debuts on Radio Songs at No. 42 (28 million, up 21 percent).

Rihanna’s “Work,” featuring Drake, spends a ninth week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 (dated April 30), pushing her past the Beatles for the second-most total weeks spent at the summit. “Work” narrowly fends off Desiigner’s “Panda,” which surges 5-2 on the Hot 100 and tops the Streaming Songs chart.

“Work,” released on Westbury Road/Roc Nation, drops to No. 2 on the Streaming Songs chart after eight weeks at No. 1, with 26 million U.S. streams, down 4 percent, in the week ending April 14, according to Nielsen Music. It falls 3-6 on Radio Songs (97 million in all-format airplay audience, down 13 percent), after reaching No. 2 on the list, and descends 12-13 on Digital Songs (52,000 downloads sold, down 18 percent), which it led for two weeks. Still, “Work” tops Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart for an 11th (nonconsecutive) week.

As reported when the song reached the top, “Work” is Rihanna’s 14th Hot 100 No. 1, placing her in a solo share of the third-most all-time, ahead of Michael Jackson (13). The Beatles lead with 20 No. 1s, followed by Mariah Carey (18). “Work” is the record-breaking ninth Hot 100 No. 1 in a row by non-U.S.-born acts (with Rihanna from Barbados and Drake, from Canada), while this week marks the record-extending 41st straight week that non-Americans have led the Hot 100.

As for more Beatles, Carey and Rihanna: Rihanna has now spent 60 total weeks at No. 1 on the Hot 100 with her 14 leaders, passing the Beatles for the second-most weeks at No. 1 all time. Here is an updated look at the acts that have logged the most time atop the Hot 100 since the chart’s 1958 inception:

79 weeks, Mariah Carey
60 weeks, Rihanna
59 weeks, The Beatles
50 weeks, Boyz II Men
47 weeks, Usher
