Check out Rihanna on set of her cover shoot for Paper Magazine.
Rihanna has become a regular on the Fashion Week schedule thanks to her clothing partnerships with Puma and River Island, plus she launched a sell-out shoe range with Manolo Blahnik. Now she is flexing her design muscles in a very different direction: high jewellery.
The singer has joined forces with the Swiss luxury-jewellery and watch maison Chopard on haute joaillerie and joaillerie collections.
“I have always been in love with Chopard’s exquisite jewellery, so to actually design collections with them is something I still can’t believe,” says Rihanna. “It was a really incredible process and I learned so much. I can’t wait for everyone to see it.”
The 29-year-old worked closely with Chopard’s co-president and creative director Caroline Scheufele on pieces that “blend urban chic with classic glamour”. The two collections were inspired by Rihanna’s “island roots – the lush gardens of Barbados and the electricity of Carnival”, describes a press release from Chopard.
The first collection, of minimalist geometric joaillerie, features nine pieces crafted from 18 carat rose ethical gold mixed with a jungle-green shade hand-picked by Rihanna; it will be unveiled in full later this month and will be available to purchase in June, with pre-orders online now at chopard.com.
The second range – the haute joaillerie collection – will debut in May as part of the 70th anniversary of the Cannes Film Festival, to celebrate Chopard’s 20th year as the official partner of the world-famous movie event. Rihanna gave us a preview at the Grammy Awards earlier this year, wearing a pair of floral-inspired chandelier earrings and a marquise-cut diamond ring from the capsule collection.
“Rihanna and I collaborated closely on the collections so you can feel her unstoppable energy, strong creativity, and inherent sense of design in every piece,” says Scheufele. “With her unique style, she redefines the way people see and wear jewellery.”
